Features to know about

Built to Handle Big 5th Wheels with Confidence: 18,000 lbs GTW and 4,500 lbs Vertical Load Limit

This heavy-duty hitch is made for serious towing. With an 18,000-lb gross towing weight and a 4,500-lb vertical load limit, it’s right at home under large fifth-wheel campers and toy haulers. The sturdy steel build and rust-resistant black powder coat finish give it the solid, “built like a tank” feel that owners appreciate when covering miles of highway with thousands of pounds behind them.

Tight Turns Made Easy: Automatic 14" Sliding Travel

Short-bed truck owners know how stressful tight campground turns can be. The Autoslide’s automatic rack-and-pinion system gives you 14" of fore/aft travel as you turn, creating the clearance needed for slow-speed cornering without getting out to pull a lever. It reacts smoothly every time your truck pivots past about 10–15 degrees, gliding the head back toward the tailgate in one controlled motion so you can focus on driving instead of worrying about cab contact.

Solid, Quiet Connection: Wraparound Single Jaw with 3/4" Locking Bar

Every bit of connection strength matters when you’re towing heavy. The single-piece wraparound jaw fully surrounds the king pin for 360-degree contact, cutting down on rattling and chucking during travel. A thick 3/4" solid steel locking bar reinforces that jaw for an extra layer of security once hitched. The result is a solid, quiet ride that feels steady mile after mile.

Smooth Hookups and a Cushioned Ride: Double-Pivot Head with Polyurethane Dampeners

Hooking up is easy thanks to a double-pivot head that naturally tilts front to back and side to side as it meets the pin box. Once you hit the road, three polyurethane dampeners absorb road shock and noise so bumps and dips feel more controlled. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference in comfort when you’re towing through varied terrain or long stretches of interstate.

Easy to Install and Remove When You Need Bed Space

This hitch drops right into the underbed mounting points using four receiver pucks, locking in place with turn handles and safety pins. When it’s time to reclaim the bed for other use, pull the pins, turn the handles, and lift it out in sections—the base, head, and side plates can be separated to make handling easier. Even considering its roughly 300-lb total weight, breaking it down this way makes off-season storage simple and manageable.

This is an average of the Demco auto slide hitch purchase:
Purchase price: 5-stars. For the features and functionality of this hitch, the slight increase over a standard 5th wheel hitch is totally worth it.
Shipping: Nearly 2-stars but I'll say 3. 6-10 business days it says. Using the tracker eTrailer provides (which is nice) it showed the hitch arrived in the State over 2 weeks (business days) before I was finally contacted for delivery. I had to change my travel plans due to the delay. "TForce" has a "customer service" phone number that is never answered. I don't know if it's because I contacted eTrailer about trying to prod their shipper for my delivery or what.
Product: 4-stars. This thing is HEAVY! This makes the assembly a bit cumbersome, especially since the direction require a bit of interpretation. Not into English since it's made in the USA, but between instruction sheets. You'll need to place the base sideways on the pallet (I used a jack stand underneath) to be able to access the areas to install the lock nuts for the mount plates. The problem others may have is determining the proper height to mount these based on your hitch height and level of the trailer. I'd measure the ground height to your trailer tongue, then measure the same distance to your truck bed (ground to bed), then add remaining distance but add a few inches. Remember your truck will squat. This should give you an idea of which holes to use. The stabilizer bar that bolts to the tailgate end of the hitch has holes that are painted over, so don't give up if the threaded rods don't immediately screw in.
I also bought the hitch handling adapter so I can lift it into the bed of the truck with my tractor.
Functionally, this thing is great. So overall, the only drawbacks to a 5-star rating is the poor shipper and the less than stellar instructions.

by:

Exactly as ordered! Arrived a week early, and carrier even dragged it up the driveway for me. All parts present and zero damage. Install is straight forward, but man is this heavy!!!

by:

I like the hitch the only down fall is the weight of it. When I need to remove it so I can use the back of the bed it not a 5 min job.

by:

Bolted directly to GMC’s factory 5th wheel prep. Nice to have the auto slide feature. No need stop, unlock slide, move the truck forward, re-lock just to make a tighter turn.

by:

Operates smoothly as advertised. Easy to put in and remove from truck. We tow a 37' 5th wheel.

by:

Works great

by:

Product arrived as promised.  It was packaged extremely well and secure.  No damage or anything missing.  I was impressed with the time frame in which it was delivered.  Very happy with the order and delivery process.  I installed it in my Chevy 2500 without any issues.  It took me about 2 hours or so to install.  The hardest part was accessing the bottom of the hitch to tighten up the 8 bolts that hold the sides on. You will need two people to set in the truck bed.  I still need to install the support bar.  You will need an extra bolt to screw into the threads to get rid of paint on the threads.

by:

It's pretty heavy at 300 pounds. I had to rig a hoist so that I could install or remove from the truck. I installed the side plates first and had to adjust one of the locking tabs per the instructions. I installed the plates in the truck and then lifted the hitch assembly into place. After bolting hitch to the side plates, two of the locks on one side are too tight to remove. I'm going to drive around a bit before removing the whole assembly and adjusting the shims on one side.

by:

So far this hitch has performed well. I have a Mor Ride hitch and had to purchase the adapter plate. The hitch connects well to the adapter plate which eliminates me having to use the adjustable side bars. The hitch is heavy but sturdy. I would recommend this hitch to anyone looking for a hands free sliding hitch.

by:

I haven't installed it yet, but the hitch came excellently packaged, and upon opening packaging, it appears to be extremely well made. All parts present and accounted for. Installing hitch this weekend.

by:

This product definitely gives me more availability for tighter turns that I was looking for. Second trip we took one of the pins popped out of the puck locking mechanism. Our last trip to Wyoming the spring pin that holds the head onto the frame was laying in my pick up box, bought a new spring pin clip that’s a little tighter, that seem to fix that issue. It would be good practice to go over the entire hitch of all mechanisms latches and secure pins before traveling. Seems with the moving and shaking, they may have a tendency to loosen a bit overtime.

by:

Couldn’t be happier.

by:

Great hitch! Haven’t used it a lot but when I have it’s pretty easy to use

by:

Very solid. However, the locking pins did not lineup perfectly with the bed holes. I had to really loosen the sides to get it to drop in. Will probably have to do it again to get it out. What a hassle. The bolts are hard to get to.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Rick. I’m sorry for the hassle, that does sound frustrating. What you’re running into isn’t uncommon, as the tolerances on puck systems and 5th wheel hitches are designed to be pretty tight, which can make alignment a bit tricky. Loosening the mounting points during install is often what allows everything to settle into place more easily.

by:

works great & Joy was nice to deal with

by:

Great Hitch!
Easy to install and set
up, works perfectly on a 6.5 ft bed

by:

Customer service was excellent

by:

I purchased the Demco Autoslide 5th wheel hitch and since have over 15,000 mile of pulling my 5th wheel. It is excellent, I no longer have to worry about it hitting the cab of my truck in a full turn. The only downside is putting it in and out of my truck. It is very heavy and takes two people to install and remove.

by:

Easy installation and works great. I love how it works. Thanks

Still working fine, no problems. It really helps not having to get out and slide my fifthwheel in a hurry.

by:

Seems to be built very well, and installation was fairly easy considering the size and weight. Won’t know how it travels until I get the RV in the Spring….we shall see! In my particular case, I had to use spacer washers between one of the brackets and the hitch so it wouldn’t jam in the truck mounts but no big deal.

I’ve also figured out a way to “store” the hitch for the winter.

A year later….. So I took the camper out 5 times this summer. Had zero issues with the hitch. Unhooking was a little tricky for me. I would raise the camper, pull the latch on the hitch, go to pull the truck away….only for the latch to lock in again. This happened to me several times but I blame myself for lack of experience. This has become less of an issue the more I unhook from the camper. Overall I’m happy with the hitch and would recommend.

  • Difference Between Demco Autoslide and Demco Autoslide Premier Series
HI Darryl; the Premier Series was a name used for a while on the Autoslide and other models when Demco switched to use industry standard bed rails. If you look further down on the # DM8550034 product page you will actually see premier series on an older overhead picture of the Autoslide. At this point the only thing it might indicate is that the hitch is older if it has that label on it. If you're wanting to use the Autoslide with your 2021 Silverado 3500 with a 6-3/4' bed and the OEM...

Hey Larry, In truth there isn't a wrong answer here between the Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch # DM79GV and B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3775. • Can Demco Autoslide Head Be Turned Manually
Hey Sungrok! What you're experiencing with the # DM79GV is normal. It takes a lot of force to move it manually, to the point that it really can't be done. You may read about people using tools to get enough leverage and force it but I don't recommend following their example. You really don't want to cause damage to the hitch. Hey Tom! The 15,500 lb GVWR of your 2024 Forest River Sierra 3800RK is the maximum weight for that 5th wheel. Pin weight is not an additional weight on top of the GVWR that gets added to it. Your trailer unloaded weighs 12,849 lbs, with a pin weight of 2,405 lbs.
